Community Church of Greenwood began in 1977 with a vision for discipleship and church planting. New churches have branched off of CCG around the Indianapolis area. In early 1990, seven Columbus area residents attending CCG expressed a desire to begin a similar church in Columbus. Tom Long, a pastor with the Missionary Church, also contacted the church with an idea to plant an independent church in the Columbus area. CCG and the Missionary Church agreed to support this new "joint venture" in Columbus.
The Longs moved to Columbus in the summer of 1990, and nine people began meeting in their home. Regular Sunday evening meetings began at IUPUC and grew to 40-50 by the end of the year. Four-hundred homes were surveyed to determine the spiritual needs of the community and the response confirmed the desire for such a church. Easter Sunday 1991 became the launch date for CCC. A brief letter was mailed to 12,000 homes, and the first worship service was held on Easter Sunday.
In the spring of 1994, CCC chose to affiliate solely with CCG as a daughter church. Tom Long served faithfully through May, 1994, and Chuck Coleman, Associate Pastor at CCG, served as our interim pastor through September, 1995.
We sensed God's desire, and in July 1995, Pastor chuck agreed to serve our congregation on a full-time basis. Chuck is a graduate of Asbury College and Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, and completed his doctorate through Northwest Graduate School of the Ministry. Pastor Chuck's ministry experience includes youth ministry, missions and counseling.
CCC has experienced continued growth since our birth in 1991. In June 1993, the congregation purchased 8.4 acres at Rocky Ford and Marr Roads, and construction of our first facility began in the spring of 1997. We celebrated our first worship service in the new facility on November 30, 1997.
